Last updated: September 26, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Affinity Life Inc. ("Affinity Life", "we") and Philip Setter, the licensed life insurance agent who provides the insurance services offered on this website, collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, Alberta's and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Acts. Where a law in your province gives you more protection, that law applies.
1. Who is responsible
Philip Setter is our Privacy Officer and is accountable for how your information is handled. You can reach him at the contact details in section 11.
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need to help you find and apply for coverage.
- Contact details: name, email, phone number, province, and anything you type in a message.
- Quote and estimator details: age or date of birth, gender, smoking status, coverage amount and term, and for the climber check, the mountain sports you do.
- Application and underwriting details: when you apply or fill out a medical questionnaire, health, lifestyle, financial, beneficiary and identity information that the insurer asks for.
- Booking details: the time you book and anything you add to the booking form.
- Website usage data: pages visited, clicks, device and browser type, approximate location from your IP address, the page or ad that referred you, and campaign tags (for example UTM, Google and Meta click IDs). See section 6.
3. Why we use it
- To send the estimate, guide, checklist or information you asked for.
- To give you quotes, a needs analysis and a recommendation.
- To prepare and submit your application to the insurer you choose, and to service your policy afterwards.
- To contact you about your request by email, phone or text.
- To send newsletters or educational emails, only if you agreed to receive them (see section 7).
- To understand how the website is used and improve it and our advertising.
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including record keeping required by insurance regulators and reporting required under Canada's anti-money-laundering law (FINTRAC).
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Consent
By submitting a form, booking a call or starting an application, you agree to our using your information for the purposes above. Health and other sensitive information is only collected with your express consent, as part of an application or questionnaire you choose to complete. You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits. If you withdraw it, we may not be able to arrange or service coverage for you.
5. Who we share it with
We share information only as needed for the purposes above:
- Insurance companies you choose to get quotes from or apply to, and the service providers they use for underwriting (for example paramedical, lab or records services).
- The brokerage and managing general agency Philip is contracted through, for application processing, compliance and supervision.
- Service providers who run our systems for us, under contracts that require them to protect your information. These include our website host (Cloudflare), our CRM, email and booking platform (HighLevel), our email and document system (Google Workspace), our quoting and application platform (PolicyStream), and the analytics tools listed in section 6.
- Regulators, law enforcement or others when the law requires it.
Storage outside Canada: some of our service providers store or process information in the United States or other countries. Information held there may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities in those countries under their laws. You can contact our Privacy Officer to ask about our use of service providers outside Canada.
6. Cookies, analytics and advertising
When you visit our website on affinitylife.ca we use:
- Google Analytics to measure visits and the actions people take.
- Meta Pixel to measure our Facebook and Instagram ads and show our ads to people who have visited the site.
- Microsoft Clarity to see how people use pages, through heatmaps and session replays. Clarity is set to mask what you type into forms.
These tools use cookies and similar technologies, and they may collect your IP address and device information. We also store campaign information in your browser so we know which page or ad brought you to us, and we send it with any form you submit.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on and manage Meta ad settings in your Facebook or Instagram account. The site still works without these cookies.
7. Emails and texts
We send commercial emails and texts only with your consent, as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to any text. We follow the CRTC's Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules, including the National Do Not Call List. Messages about an application or policy you have with us are not marketing messages and may still be sent.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, and for as long as insurance regulations, tax law and limitation periods require us to keep client records. After that, we securely delete or destroy it.
9. How we protect it
We use physical, technical and administrative safeguards appropriate to how sensitive the information is. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), access limited to people who need it, multi-factor authentication on our systems, and confidentiality obligations for anyone who handles client files. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so please don't email sensitive health or banking details unless we ask you to use a secure method.
10. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, how it has been used and who it has been shared with. You can also ask us to correct it if it's wrong. We will respond within the time the law allows, which is usually 30 days. In limited cases the law lets us refuse access, and if so we will tell you why.
